Frequently Asked Questions
There are several ways for you to get help!
• Consider joining the Herrington Lake Conservation League. Annual membership dues and donations go directly to cleanup and operating cost. Your giving is tax deductible. You may contact hlcltreasurer@gmail.com (mailto:hlcltreasurer@gmail.com)for more information.
• Host or sponsor an event. Big or small, all donations help! For more information, please contact hlcltreasurer@gmail.com.(https://manage.wix.com/dashboard/1231ec42-e0b7-45f2-b149-2957b232b923/wix-faq/edit/hlcltreasurer@gmail.com)
• If you have a boat, carry a net. If something is floating in the lake, please pick it up with the net!
• If you own property on the lake, try to keep your bank free of man-made debris and trash that would float out on the lake when the water comes up. You can hire us! We would be happy to cut & stack wood for you to burn! Our crew will not clear vegetation, including cutting down any trees that are standing, or assisting with the removal of any trees that have fallen above the high-water elevation (760'). Please contact us at hlclcleanup@gmail.com.(https://manage.wix.com/dashboard/1231ec42-e0b7-45f2-b149-2957b232b923/wix-faq/edit/hlclcleanup@gmail.com)
• Try participating in the community cleanup day! Organize a neighborhood cleanup! We would be willing to help remove any man-made debris or trash from the cleanup day. Contact us at hlclcleanup@gmail.com.(https://manage.wix.com/dashboard/1231ec42-e0b7-45f2-b149-2957b232b923/wix-faq/edit/hlclcleanup@gmail.com)
• Have a large tree, piece of Styrofoam, dead dock you need help with, tie it up or secure it if you can, contact us at hlclcleanup@gmail.com (mailto:hlclcleanup@gmail.com)to get on our to-do list for pick up when we are in that area! We try to have more than one request in an area at one time to help save on cost!
You can use your boat by being proactive every time you go out. If you have a pontoon boat, it is easy to get to places on the bank that may need man-made debris or trash picked up. There is some nice driftwood out there!
If you know someone with a boat, organize a ride to help with cleanup efforts!
We try to encourage neighborhood cleanup. Different neighborhoods have different types of banks. If your neighborhood has a walk-able bank, organize a neighborhood cleanup. Get your local HOA involved. HLCL will be happy to help pick up any man-made debris or trash collected! For more information, please contact hlclcleanup@gmail.com.(https://manage.wix.com/dashboard/1231ec42-e0b7-45f2-b149-2957b232b923/wix-faq/edit/hlclcleanup@gmail.com)
We encourage cleanup activities year-round! One year we had March Madness and encouraged different portions of the lake to hold clean-ups on different weekends. There is too much March Madness in Kentucky in March so that wasn't that effective. We now have an annual clean up in June. Would you like to host a community cleanup in your area on that day? Should we try something like that in April next year? Contact us for pickup for any man-made debris or trash at hlclcleanup@gmail.com (mailto:hlclcleanup@gmail.com)from the Annual Community Cleanup Day.
HLCL will be glad to accept support for any event. If you would like to donate money, goods or services that are helpful to our efforts to our fundraising events that would be great! Sponsor a hole or play on a team at our golf scramble in September!
We have an organized Annual Community Cleanup Day.() You can supply or serve coffee, water or donuts to any of the workers.
